Success for Every Student
Hello, I’m Kathryn (Kathy) Puseman, and I’m honored to be a candidate for the Platte Canyon School District RE-1 Board of Education. My experience includes serving in leadership roles such as church Treasurer, President and Treasurer of the Mountain Toastmasters Club, Committee Chair for BSA Troop 238, Co-President of the USAFA Colorado Parents’ Club, Secretary of the PCHS School Advisory Committee, and running my own small business for 13 years. These roles have equipped me with the skills needed to serve effectively on the school board.
As a parent of two Platte Canyon High School graduates, I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact this district can have on students. I’m deeply grateful for the support and opportunities my family received, and I view this candidacy as a way to give back to the community that gave so much to us.
Like many districts, Platte Canyon faces financial challenges—from declining enrollment and inflation-driven costs to a limited property tax base. I don’t claim to have all the answers, and I don’t come with a personal agenda — I come with a commitment to serve. I believe in transparency, respectful dialogue, and putting students first in every decision we make. With your support, I’ll work to ensure Platte Canyon continues to be a place where every student has the opportunity to succeed in a safe, supportive environment.
I’m ready to listen, collaborate, and contribute to thoughtful conversations about how we move forward together. I respectfully ask for your support on November 4th—let’s work toward a future where there is truly “Success for every Student!”

What I believe
Because not every student will go to college
I am committed to ensuring every student receives an education that prepares them for success—whether that means college, career, or community service. My vision is for our schools to be places where all students are valued, challenged, and supported, regardless of their background or future plans.
I applaud the ACE (Alternate Cooperate Education) program in place at PCHS for students whose educational needs are well-suited to contextual, work-based learning. The Husky Hut (school store) is a big hit and provides students the opportunity for career-related experiences.
I would love to see expansion of CTE (career and technical education) classes that can be offered.
Parental Involvement
Educational success begins at home, and I hope to strengthen the partnership between families and schools. I want to ensure parents have a voice in their children’s education and that our schools provide resources to support families.
Supporting and Retaining Great Teachers
Our teachers are the foundation of our schools. I will prioritize policies that help us attract and retain talented educators, recognizing their dedication and the vital role they play in student achievement.
Responsible Leadership and Community Engagement
I have attended several school board meetings and witnessed the dedication of our current leaders. If elected, I will continue to listen to our community, make decisions transparently, and always put students’ needs first—balancing innovation with fiscal responsibility.
Thank you to our current Superintendent and School Board for their hard work and dedication.
Bullying
Bullying is a complex issue that requires a united response. My vision is for schools where every student feels safe, respected, and included. I will support programs that foster empathy, resilience, and positive relationships among students and staff.
Because this is such a complex issue, there is no one single, easy solution. But I do believe a partnership between home and school is essential to addressing this problem.
My Goal
I am running for a seat on the school board because I care deeply about our students, our teachers, and our community. I have a desire to see this district thrive and provide a safe and healthy learning environment where every student can succeed, and I am ready to work collaboratively to make that vision a reality.
